What Factors Influence Your Drones’ Flying Time?

Many drones’ newcomers think their drones’ flying time is too short and not enjoyable enough.When it comes to the time they expect to,many of them said 30mins.Short of that, you are out of luck. We have hardly seen a fully-loaded multi-copter fly for even 20 minutes, let alone 30mins. If you are making videos, you have no reason to fly for an hour anyway. An hour long single take? Please,you will have plenty of opportunity to change batteries between takes. Just buy a lot of batteries. Even 10 minutes is a pretty long time for a single take in a video.
As a matter of fact,the average flight times of drones are 6-10 mins,but many newcomers said that they only can fly 2-4mins.

Then how to lengthen your drones’ flying time?

1.You can try to increase the capacity of your battery when keep all other things same.

“Battery capacity” is a measure (typically in Amp-hr) of the charge stored by the battery, and is determined by the mass of active material contained in the battery.The battery capacity represents the maximum amount of energy that can be extracted from the battery under certain specified conditions.Many newcomers said that we can increase the amount of batteries upon its capacity and lipo 3s voltage,yet,you forget one point,their weight will be heavier at the same time.

From what I’ve learned, adding more capacity equals so much more weight that the power required to lift the extra weight actually lessens flight time. That’s if it’ll even get off the ground. That’s the kind of power to battery weight ratio.

Fortunately,with the high technology nowadays,this problems are dealt with mostly.Many innovative battery manufacturers produce high capacity,voltage and discharge rate without adding much weight to ensure longer flying time and higher speed.

That is a 2s,10000mah,10C lipo battery can fly in a longer time than a 2s,5000mah,10C lipo battery.
Undoubtedly,the price of 3s 10000mah 10C LiPo battery is more expensive than 5000mah lipo 2s 10C one.

2.Speed Control.

When you fly your drones,the faster speed you fly,the shorter time they will fly.Cause they will take lots of capacity and energy and power in a high speed to control its flight.So keep a lower speed and fly stably and wildly.

3.Remove the gimbal or camera or other related parts.

Actually,the majority of your weight will be camera gear, not batteries.So Remove the gimbal or camera or other related parts,which take up lots of your drone’s power and capacity.
The new DJI S800 gets around 22 mins of flight time with no gimbal or camera.
The more weight = less flight time, especially in non hover situations.

4.Take your hover time =4-6min and that becomes 2-4 minutes of flight time real quick.

When your drones fly up from the ground,it needs a very high current and takes much power to support its takeoff.And when you change its travel path in different height and speed,it shortens flying time also.
So if you want to fly in a longer time,you can take longer hover time which consumes less energy.

5.Charge your battery fully

Please use a capable LiPo balance charger to charge to ensure full electricity,which will help to fly in a longer time.

 

6.Choose a good weather.

Please keep in mind that the weather influences your flying time in some way.So choose to fly in a wild,sunshine day,which you can not only fly a longer time,but also protect your drones better.
